This year's Oscars has made history.

Much of the 82nd Academy Awards centered around two films: "The Hurt Locker", a low-budget film, and "Avatar", one of the highest budget and most watched movies.

It was a rivalry dubbed a "David and Goliath battle".

But the night was dominated by "The Hurt Locker", which won a total of 6 Oscars - a massive victory for such a small independent film.

Kathryn Bigelow, the film's director, became the first woman ever to win Best Director in the event's history.

Al Jazeera's Catherine Turner reports from Hollywood in Los Angelos.
